Face Down

This week I chose the song "Face Down" by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus because I might end up face down after all the work I'll be doing the next couple of weeks. (Just kidding).

Anyway, last week I covered the very exciting District 11 boy's basketball tournament. There were many close games, but both Bottineau and Westhope-Newburg advanced to regions.

I also witnessed another exciting finish in the 5-4 OT upset Bottineau put on Bismarck Century last Friday. Though it didn't clinch them the top seed in the playoffs due to tiebreakers, it was the first time in 39 games Century lost in the regular season to a West Region opponent.

This week I will have four basketball games to cover, three of them girls. Then I'm going to be traveling to Bismarck to take in the final day of the West Region Tournament to find out who will be heading to the state tournament Feb. 23-25.

I have many pictures, as usual for this time of year:

Braves senior Mark LaCroix tosses a pass.

Garrett Pollman goes up for two of his 18 points, 16 of which came in the second half. It was a career high for Pollman, a sophomore.

McCloud tries a pull up jumper in the second half Saturday.

Miller tries a three-pointer.

Kitzman looks to pass.

Kitzman is fouled on his way to the hoop on a fast break.

Senior Logan Millican skates toward the net on a breakaway early in the game last Friday in Bottineau.

Kyle Volk, a senior, controls a bouncing puck as he looks to pass or shoot last Friday.

Soon after the timeout sophomore Harrison Aide scored and the team and fans celebrated the game-tying goal.
