We'll Be Fine

Despite an increasingly busy schedule, a couple breaking stories and a trip back home for one of my best friend's wedding (shout out to Randy Lockridge)  I told myself that I'll be fine through all of it. That is why I chose the song "We'll Be Fine" by Drake off of his sophomore album Take Care.

This past week I covered a couple BHS baseball games, as well as some DCB softball action against Wahpeton.

After this weekend's wedding will be another busy week with something going on almost every day. Good thing the spring season is short and often littered with rain showers to postpone, cancel or steer me away from outdoors.

Here are some pictures from last week's baseball and softball games:

Bottineau senior Cody Brooks releases a pitch last Saturday against Rolette. Bottineau won 12-0 in five innings.

Braves senior Ging Martin successfully steals second after an errant throw.

Freshman Brock Hiltner delivers a hit last Saturday.

Konnor Keysor, an eighth grader, hangs on to his hat as he rounds third as he scores after pinch-running last Saturday.

Ladyjacks freshman Amanda Schmidt slings a pitch toward home last Saturday against NDSCS.

Schmidt again delivers in a 9-0 win over the Wildcats.

Sophomore Jess Mehling delivers a big hit in Saturday's win.

Sophomore Jillian Hole makes a play on a pop fly behind first base.

Emily Olafson takes a hack at a pitch last Saturday.

Mehling fights a pitch off the end of the bat.

Hole hurls a pitch toward home in Sunday's final game against NDSCS at Tommy Turtle Park.

Hole winds up.

Hole fires one at the plate in a 17-10 loss.

Mehling reaches to make the bare hand play on a bunt.

Sherry Chan bloops in a hit.

Hole fields a bunt.

Hole fires to first for the out.

10 Degrees and Getting Colder

This week I chose the song 10 Degrees and Getting Colder by Gordon Lightfoot because it was a chilly week (OK it wasn't 10 degrees, but still, chilly) for all the athletes, spectators and reporters.

The cool weather, coupled with some showers and snow, cancelled or shortened many games and meets this past week. However, I did cover an 11-1 Bottineau baseball win and a home BHS boy's golf meet.

In the upcoming week I have another baseball game to cover on Saturday, and I went and took some pictures at last nights Braves 10-5 win over North Star. I also will be (weather permitting as always) covering DCB softball this weekend too.

I have pictures from both baseball and golf.

Braves senior Justin McCloud pitches last Tuesday against Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood-Glenburn.

Sophomore second baseman Lee Schneider snags a ball.

McCloud avoids an errant pitch from MLSG pitcher Adam Undlin.

Shortly after the wild pitch McCloud smacks a hit into the outfield.

Senior Mark LaCroix extends to poke a single into the outfield.

Freshman Kameron Mooney tees off on the sixth hole last Tuesday at Bottineau Country Club.

Philip Neubauer tees up his ball on hole No. 1.

Neubauer finishes his swing.

Junior Taylor Parisien watches as his putt rolls toward the hole.

Freshman Luke Amsbaugh chips down the hill on the ninth hole.

Jesse Heil taps a putt toward the hole from the fringe (he made it).

Christian St. Claire taps in his putt on the ninth green.

Freshman Alex Bristol watches his ball on the par-3 eighth.

Zack Monson, a junior for Bottineau, lines up his putt on the second green last Tuesday.

Monson watches his putt creep toward the hole.

Off and Running

This week I chose the Lesley Gore 1966 classic "Off and Running" because that is exactly what the spring sports season is doing.

I covered the Bottineau baseball team's opener this past week. It ended in a 4-3 BHS victory. I have several pictures from it. Expect more BHS baseball, as well as BHS golf pictures next week.

Here they are:

BHS second baseman Lee Schneider fields a ground ball last Thursday against Rugby.

Rugby second baseman Jayden Welk misplays a throw to pick off Bottineau sophomore Andrew Hill.

Schneider about to deliver an RBI single.

Braves senior Mark LaCroix delivers a pitch in last Thursday's 4-3 win.

Bottineau senior Cody Brooks flips to LaCroix for the final out of the inning.

Hill gets back to first base safely on a pick off.

Senior transfer Ging Martin crosses the plate for the first of Bottineau's four runs in the win.

LaCroix lunges toward home.

Martin fires to first.

Martin blocks a ground ball.

Braves freshman Luke Amsbaugh attempts to tag out a Rugby runner.

LaCroix winds up.

LaCroix slides into Welk.

LaCroix fields a ball.

Here Comes the Boom

This week I picked the song "Here Comes the Boom" by Nelly (from "The Longest Yard"). I chose it because the spring sports season is just upon me. I have two baseball games and a softball game to cover this week.

Last week was relatively quiet with just pictures of track practice and a couple preview stories. I also wrote a story on the new BHS volleyball coach--Steve Dunrud.

I only have a few track preview pics to share. Look for more next week from the baseball/softball games.

Harrison Aide practices one of his first vaults of the year at last Wednesday's practice.

Freshman Kennedy Azure tosses the discus in practice last Wednesday.

Vince Bechtold does his best to hurl the discus.
